As we delve deeper into 2024, it's only a matter of time before Samsung unveils its next lineup of foldable phones. This lineup should include the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Rumors about these devices are beginning to circulate, and we anticipate the next generation of foldables to hit the market sometime around summer. But what does Samsung specifically have in store for the Galaxy Z Fold 6? From rumored prices, specifications, design, and more, here's everything we know so far.
Based on the release history of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, we can expect the next generation of Samsung foldables to arrive sometime in the summer.
For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 was launched on August 27, 2021. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 followed suit on August 25, 2022, and the latest Galaxy Z Fold 5 hit the shelves on August 11, 2023.
However, indications suggest that we might see the Galaxy Z Fold 6 unveiled a little earlier than August this year. According to reports from SamMobile, the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is slated for early July 2024. The signs point to the second week of the month, and Galaxy Unpacked events typically occur on Wednesdays, hinting at July 10 as a likely announcement date.
The rationale behind the earlier release date could be Samsung's desire to leverage the marketing opportunities surrounding the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, commencing on July 26. It's also speculated that the Galaxy Unpacked event might take place in Paris this year. At least, that's what The Bell is reporting.
Foldable phones have historically been on the higher end of the pricing spectrum, typically hovering around the $1,800 mark. For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $1,800 for the base model (12GB/256GB) and goes up from there, with the 512GB variant priced at $1,920, and the 1TB version commanding a hefty $2,160.
However, there's a possibility of a change this year, with rumors indicating the potential for two different Galaxy Z Fold 6 models. Speculations suggest the introduction of a more premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 "Ultra," which could position the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6 as the more affordable base model.
This scenario might lead to a lower starting price for the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6, while the Ultra variant could debut at the usual $1,800 price point or higher. If this speculation holds true, we could theoretically witness the standard Z Fold 6 hitting the shelves for $1,600 or even less.
A point of contention with the Galaxy Z Fold 3-5 series was the aspect ratio of the cover display, eliciting mixed reactions from users. However, Samsung might address this with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The disappointing aspect of the Fold 6 is that it uses the same image sensor as the Fold 5.

The major update of the Fold 6 is the change in the aspect ratio of the external display. https://t.co/RVp454lNbw
According to @Revegnus on X (formerly Twitter), Samsung may alter the aspect ratio of the cover display. Additionally, @RossYoung on X suggests that both the inner and outer displays will be larger than those of their predecessors.

Another leak from Yogesh Brar suggests that the cover display on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could measure 6.4 inches, slightly larger than the 6.2-inch display on the Z Fold 5, potentially with an aspect ratio of 20:9 instead of the Z Fold 5's 23.1:9.

6.4"
A larger cover display would likely influence the inner display as well. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has an aspect ratio of 5:6 for the inner display, but the Z Fold 6 might adopt a more square-like aspect ratio of 1.08:1.
On February 28, leaker @OnLeaks collaborated with SmartPrix to unveil design renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. These renders depict a 6.2-inch cover display, a 7.6-inch inner display, and unfolded dimensions of 153.5 x 132.5 x 6.1mm, making it slightly shorter and wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Leaker Chun Bhai also suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be wider but thinner and lighter, measuring just 11mm when folded.

No S Pen slot
Little wider, more of S24 Ultra style sharp edges
Snap 8 Gen 3
4600 mAh
3 cams
Improved udc
Titanium build
Much thinner and lighter (11mm when folded)
3 colour options
Despite these reports, there appear to be discrepancies regarding display sizes. However, the possibility of an "Ultra" version might introduce a larger external display. Details remain unclear until Samsung's official announcement.
Interestingly, the OnLeaks render also reveals the phone's frame, featuring flat edges and sharper corners akin to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Rumors also hint at a titanium body and three color options for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. While an S Pen slot may be absent, the potential release of a more expensive Ultra version could change this aspect.
Samsung unveiled the S24 lineup, consisting of the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, at the end of January. These devices feature Qualcomm's latest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
It's reasonable to expect Samsung to integrate the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip into the Galaxy Z Fold 6 series. Typically, the Galaxy Z Fold receives an annual chip upgrade, and since the S24 series already utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it's likely to extend to the Z Fold and Z Flip as well.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip represents the pinnacle of performance for Android phones, optimized in collaboration with Samsung for Galaxy devices. These chips are finely tuned for enhanced performance and power efficiency.
There's been no information regarding the RAM or storage configurations for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, based on its predecessor's specifications, we can anticipate a minimum of 12GB of RAM and storage options reaching up to 1TB, or something similar.
The information regarding the cameras is somewhat conflicting.
Initially, Revegnus suggested in his tweet about the aspect ratio that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would use the same image sensor as the Z Fold 5. However, a more recent leak from him implies that Samsung might opt for the same camera sensor found in the S24 Ultra, potentially upgrading to a 200MP main camera.
While these leaks present contradictions, they could hold true if Samsung introduces a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra. In such a scenario, the Ultra variant might feature the 200MP camera, while the base version retains the cameras from the Z Fold 5.
A report from GalaxyClub cannot confirm the rumors of a 200MP main camera but suggests that the Z Fold 6 may sport a 50MP primary lens similar to the regular S24. Yogesh Brar has also indicated that the camera setup might resemble that of the Z Fold 5, comprising a 50MP primary camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera.
There's limited information available regarding the battery of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but we do have some insights. Presently, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 houses a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging capabilities.
It appears that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature a slightly larger battery at 4,600mAh. Coupled with the power efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, as evidenced by the S24 series, this bodes well for battery life. However, there are no details available about the charging speeds, although they're likely to be similar to its predecessor.
It’s highly probable that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will debut with Android 14, featuring at least One UI 6.1 layered on top. Considering Samsung's launch of its Galaxy AI suite of AI-powered tools alongside the S24, it's likely that these features will also be available on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Following the S24 series, Samsung has committed to providing seven years of Android updates for its phones. Consequently, if the Z Fold 6 ships with Android 14, there's a strong likelihood it will receive updates up to Android 21. While foldables may not offer the same durability as traditional slab phones like the S24 line, long-term software support should remain a reliable feature.
