Google Pixel 9 Rumors: Everything We Know So Far

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are Google’s latest and most powerful devices, but they won't hold that title for long. With the more recently released Pixel 8a as the newest addition to the Pixel lineup, anticipation is building for the Pixel 9 series. Expected to bring significant upgrades, the Pixel 9 family is just around the corner and promises to be a major hit with new AI features and design changes.

Here's everything we know about the upcoming Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google Pixel 9: Release Date

Google has confirmed its next Made by Google event for August 13 in Mountain View, California. This is earlier than anticipated, as the Pixel 8 series launched in October last year. The press invites hinted at showcasing "the best of Google AI, Android software, and the Pixel portfolio of devices," indicating new AI and software features along with the Pixel 9 series. The Pixel 9 will also launch in India on August 14, available via Flipkart, marking the first release of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in India.

Google Pixel 9: Possible Price

Pricing remains uncertain. Last year’s Pixels saw a $100 price increase, with the Pixel 8 at $699 and the Pixel 8 Pro at $999. While another price hike seems unlikely, incorporating advanced AI features could drive costs up. The reintroduction of the XL model and the addition of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold add more variables to the pricing equation. Foldable phones tend to be more expensive, so the Pixel 9 Pro Fold might be the priciest.

Google Pixel 9: Design and Display

The Pixel 9 series is set for a design overhaul. Leaked renders reveal significant changes, including a new camera visor that wraps around the camera lenses instead of spanning the back of the phone. The Pixel 9 will feature two rear cameras and flat sides, abandoning the curved design. The Pixel 9 is expected to have a 6.3-inch Actua display.

The Pixel 9 Pro, similar in size to the Pixel 9, will have three rear cameras, including a telephoto lens. It may also feature a temperature sensor, a holdover from the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, with a larger 6.8-inch display, will share the Pro's camera and sensor configuration.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, revealed in a teaser video, will have a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch inner display. Rumors suggest the Pixel 9 series will use a new, brighter Samsung OLED display with improved lifespan.

Color options for the Pixel 9 include Porcelain, Obsidian, Rose, and Green. The Pixel 9 Pro will come in Obsidian, Porcelain, Rose, and Hazel. The Pixel 9 will have matte sides and a glossy back, while the Pixel 9 Pro will have glossy sides.

Google Pixel 9: Specs

Leaks indicate the Pixel 9 will have 12GB of RAM, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL may feature up to 16GB of RAM and at least 256GB of storage. The new Tensor G4 chip, based on the 4nm Samsung Exynos 2400, will power the Pixel 9 series. The Tensor G4 offers a 15% performance boost over its predecessor and includes a new Samsung 5400 modem supporting satellite connectivity.

Google Pixel 9: Cameras

The Pixel 9 will have a dual camera system with a 50MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide lens. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will feature a triple-lens setup with a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens. The selfie camera on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will see a major upgrade to 42MP.

Google Pixel 9: Software and Updates

The Pixel 9 will debut with Android 15, bringing new features like “Adaptive Touch,” which adjusts touchscreen sensitivity based on environmental conditions. The Pixel 9 series will also introduce advanced AI features, potentially powered by a Gemini Nano assistant named “Pixie.”
